HORRABRIDGE

The name ‘Horrabridge’ probably means ‘boundary bridge’ because it was here that several parishes met before Horrabridge became a separate parish in its own right.
The present bridge, one of the oldest in Devon, was built in the 13th century but there has been a crossing over the River Walkham here for centuries - there is even some evidence to suggest there was a settlement here in prehistoric times. There was a time when this bridge was on the main road between Plymouth and Tavistock.
